RESPONDER #1

NAME: Jason Law

ORGANIZATION: The Vortex

1.  5 years.

2. To learn more about what is unknown and to help others with their own experiences.

3. Video recording

4. The Shining

5. Yes

6. I believe that most of the evidence of orbs is dust. Very few cases have I seen where I actually believe that what I see is a spirit that may be taking the shape of an orb.

7. Doing it alone. I believe that ghost hunting is a group activity and that for the safety of everyone that it should not be done alone.

8. Meeting new people. The community as a whole is very friendly and not as weird as the general public may think. Many people in the community are business leaders, community heads, and everyday normal people.

RESPONDER #2

NAME: Ryan Buell

ORGANIZATION: Penn State University Paranormal research Society

1. I started investigating the paranormal when I was 15. I had to teach myself everything because no one would give an underage teenager the chance, plus I come from South Carolina. There aren't many paranormal organizations down there. I'm no 23, so eight years.

2. I became a paranormal investigator mainly to seek out answers to things that happened to me when I was very young. I think a lot of investigators start out that way. Ultimately, for whatever reason, those of us who commit to paranormal investigation have had the fortunate-or unfortunate-awakening of noticing something else out there.

We chose to confront it as opposed to denying it.

3. Honestly, my intuition. When it comes down to it my society and I are about helping people. Each case is a mystery that needs to be solved. So, we take the time to look for clues as to why the spirits are there. I'm past the phase of trying to find evidence. I've seen enough with my own eyes over eight years, now I'm going to help as many people as I can. No matter how much equipment you invest in, at the end of the day, it goes back to instinct and intuition. either you have it or you don't.

4. "The Exorcist". I know it almost line-by-line.

5. I do believe demons exist. I've seen it first hand. I know there are a lot of investigators who do not go near demonic cases, but although that protect their own hides, it doesn't protect the family or individual still needing help. We've been brought in by the Catholic Church to assist in demonic cases. We've also done a few on our own. The ultimate lesson is never to underestimate them. You're dealing with a power that has been here since before our forefathers came to this earth. Likewise, those of us who dare combat the forces of darkness receive strength from an even stronger power-the power of Christ. I find it interesting that no matter what country demonic possession turns up in, they always fear Christ.

6. Prefer not to comment.

7. There are a few dangerous parts about ghost hunting. I think a dominant one would be ill-equipped individuals going out there looking for a thrill or scare. Now I know why no one wanted to accept me as an investigator when I was 15! There are a lot of young people going out there with their boyfriends or girlfriends looking to get scared. Some of these people eventually turn to us for counseling or assistance because they went further than they could handle. Know your limits! If you can't deal with malevolent entities, that's fine. Let your team leader know so he/she can prepare accordingly. Do not freak out and run! It's only more embarrassing for you, the screamer. Not knowing your limits harms everyone around you. Be responsible.

Another would be communicating with spirits. This is a very touchy subject, and I'm sure many of you have your own opinions about this. One thing I think everyone is in agreement with is that there are dangerous spirits, potentially demonic spirits. If you're communicating with spirits, are you able to discern whom you're speaking with? Do not fall into traps, so not use Quija boards, and do NOT communicate with spirits for fun. Our society only communicates with spirit when we've exhausted all other options, or if we have someone who has PROVEN to be reliable after several investigations.   All in all, just be careful!

8. Hands down, helping people. When I first started, I admit it was for the thrill of seeking out a mystery. But when people started coming to us for help, it made a huge impact on me, as well as other members within the group. Now, that's my main goal. That and educating people. I was talking to the legendary John Zaffis once, and I was complaining about how many in this field only seem interested in promoting themselves, and not interested in promoting the field of the paranormal as a whole. On top of that, it seems that many of these so-called "experts" are refusing to share their knowledge and expertise with others. He told me that passing on knowledge and educating the next generation of paranormal investigators is one of the most important things we can do. We're not going to be alive forever, ands we're not going to solve all of mankind's greatest mysteries in one life either!

So, helping and educating people are so rewarding. I hope many of you will agree.
